Kh. Angpham Charanga was born in 1913 at the erstwhile Lamalbung (Uyaching), now known as Phunal Sambum Village, in the western side of the Maringland near Kakching Town. He was the son of (L) Kh. Mengam Charanga and (L) Kh. Tohang Charanga. He completed Class II at Kangpokpi Mission School in 1936. He converted to Christianity in 1935 and was baptized by R. Thoma Moyon, a Moyon evangelist from Komlathabi Baptist Church on August 9, 1945. His conversion to Christianity was greatly opposed by his own village leaders and others. He was even expelled from his village settlement to a hilltop known as Terapokpi with his wife and eldest son. He was persecuted due to adhering to his new-found faith in Jesus Christ. He was instrumental in bringing his people to the faith he adhered to. Due to his patience and longsuffering in the midst of storms of life, and due to his strenuous efforts in bringing his people to the light he had walked into, all the villagers of Phunal Sambum converted to Christianity on December 23, 1991. The church he founded in 1945 is still faithfully serving the Lord in different capacities. Till today, Phunal Sambum Baptist Church continues to enrich the rich heritage and replenish the legacy he has left. He served as a church deacon for several years and he also obtained government job and rendered his service as Lambu at Tengnoupal SDC Office. He was blessed with six sons and four daughters through his three wives–(L) Mrs. D. Teshiltrim, (L) Mrs. Ch. Te-on, and Mrs. M. Phamshim who is still alive. He breathed his last on April 13, 1989 at Phunal Sambum, and was survived by his wife, M. Phamshim, his children and grandchildren.
K. Kothel Maring, son of K. Thelkung, was born at Khoibu Village. As a young man, he had been travelling in Tangkhul villages in search of living opportunities since 1943. He then founded Khoibu Baptist Church. He completed Class B at Khoibu Lower Primary School. He married H. Shangrandar in 1945. He breathed his last in March 1952, leaving behind his family members and co-workers.
